While changes like these may appear straightforward, modifying existing cabinetry can be technically complex. Over time, certain finishes, materials, door styles, and construction methods become discontinued or evolve to meet new standards. As a result, achieving a perfect match with older cabinetry isn't always possible. And these challenges increase the likelihood of results that fall short of both your expectations and our high standards of quality.

What We Do (and don't do)

At Legacy Kitchens, our expertise and focus are complete kitchen renovations and new cabinetry. We don't specialize in cabinet refacing (replacing door and drawer fronts) or refinishing (such as painting existing cabinetry). However, there are excellent local companies that do specialize in these services and can provide the kind of results you're looking for if restoration or cosmetic improvements are of interest.

Can I make colour changes?

When adding new cabinetry to an existing space, colour matching can be a challenge. As styles and trends evolve, some door styles and finishes may become discontinued. Even when the same product line is available, natural aging and exposure to light can cause visible inconsistencies in finish, colour, and grain over time. These subtle differences can noticeably affect the overall appearance, even when using similar materials.

Are there structural challenges?

Cabinetry is typically designed and installed as a complete system. Modifying part of that system can impact structural integrity or intended function and may interfere with components like lighting, ventilation, or plumbing.

What are the cost implications?

Cost is another important consideration. Beyond cabinetry and installation costs, there may be additional items to address – items such as countertops, toe kicks, paneling, or molding adjustments. This is especially true when integrating new elements with existing cabinetry.
